Academic standards covering programs of study for a bachelor degree with a major in accounting and a coursework master degree. These standards were developed as part of a demonstration project funded by the Australian Government in 2010 and facilitated by the Australian Learning and Teaching Council. Academic institutions and teachers, professional bodies, accreditation bodies, employers and graduates participated in the development of minimum threshold learning outcomes for the discipline.

Addressing the ongoing English language growth of international students

This study investigated the relationships between academic success, language and academic learning strategies used, and affective learning variables. As a result of findings from the study, a multi-media resource providing advice on those strategies and beliefs about learning was developed for students and staff.

This report presents the findings of the AeP project survey (AeP PS). Current and emerging e-portfolio practice in post compulsory education is described, and the e-portfolio scene in late 2010 and late 2007 are compared. The critical success factors for e-portfolio use were widely acknowledged to relate to funding and staffing, as well as the need for adequate support for students in areas of pedagogy, or ‘e-portfolio learning’, and IT. Good planning processes and appropriate staff development were also significant factors.

When the Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) started operations in 2005, academic standards, assessment practices and reporting were among the ALTC’s designated responsibilities and priorities as determined by the ALTC Board. Over the years, the number of projects and fellowship programs focusing on assessment has grown substantially and this remains one of the priority areas that attracts a significant number of applications with each new funding round.

This report outlines each 2010 ALTC-funded project and fellowship with a focus on assessment. It includes both completed and ongoing projects and fellowships.

ALTC presentation: reward and recognition for teaching and learning

Articulating lifelong learning in tourism: dialogue between humanities scholars and travel providers

The web site is a rich source of information and inspiration for those setting, designing or redesigning, assessment tasks. It indicates the purpose for the materials, making it clear that the content is relevant for experienced teachers and educational developers and that the site is not designed for those seeking an introduction to assessment. The site contains only minimal information on items such as rubrics and marking schemes. This is not a deficiency; rather it is a reinforcement of the purpose of the site which is to facilitate change in the emphasis on assessment of current learning to assessment that values self-directed, self-managed and self-evaluated learners.

The web site is organised around the key principles of engaging students, setting authentic activities, scaffolding students in designing some assessments, setting integrative tasks, fostering learning and judgement, modelling and practice, working with peers, as well as giving and receiving feedback. Each section succinctly describes a principle, provides a brief articulation of how it could be implemented and then has a link to discipline examples.

The section titled "Towards informed judgement" is a particularly useful one and worth reading. The range of discipline examples for assessment for future learning is limited because only a few teachers are engaging with this issue. There are highly relevant literature references on assessment practices for future learning attributes.

The reader should also download the well-written synthesis of where assessment practices should be heading over the coming years, "Assessment 2020: Seven propositions for assessment reform in higher education".

The aim of this project was to enhance primary teacher education students' capacities as mathematics teachers, catering for children’s diverse achievement and learning needs.  there is a focus teaching Indigenous children and children in regional, rural and remote locations. Development and evaluation of resources to enhance skills in higher degree research supervision in an intercultural context

This project addressed postgraduate research supervision in a cross-cultural context from the point of view of both supervisor and candidate, and from the perspective of what institutions can do to support candidates and supervisors. Based on the research data, five different types of resources were developed: ten short video clips with supporting transcripts; 17 written scenarios with key ideas and suggested discussion questions; three documents outlining strategies; a checklist to determine departmental and faculty readiness; and an annotated bibliography with over 100 entries. Resources may be found on the project website and are freely available for use by both candidates and supervisors.
